Many of us are guilty of leading sedentary lives and cultivating unsavoury lifestyle habits like overeating, consuming copious amounts of junk food, indulging in smoking and drinking. This can result in a poorly functioning digestive system and the need for colon cleansing. Often, people refuse to undertake this medical procedure until they get assurance that is colon cleansing really safe and effective.

The colon is also known as the bowel or the large intestine. In a normal person, this ranges from 1 to 2 meters long. The food we consume contain nutrients that are absorbed into the body as it passes through it. By the time it reaches the colon, only waste is left. The colon then functions by removing the wastes that our bodies are unable to digest, for example, water, indigestible fiber, probiotics.

Unfortunately, lifestyle and a poor diet can weaken the function of the colon. Digestive problems can stem from stress, a high intake of saturated fats, sugars and excessive salt, lack of fiber, lack of fluids, lack of exercise, too much alcohol and smoking, amongst many other factors. These create an unfriendly environment for the bacteria needed for a colon to function normally. There enters a process called colon cleansing.

Colon cleansing aims to revive a colon that is not functioning properly. When a colon does not work as well as it should, waste materials are processed more slowly than normal. Much of the food we consume these days contain toxins and when these pass through our digestive system slowly, the more of these toxins are absorbed into our blood stream. These extra toxins may overwhelm and eventually cause damage to our kidneys, liver as well as other areas of the body.

Colon cleaning strives to help the body remove unnecessary toxins in the body and restore the balance and function of the colon. This is supposed to help restore the digestive system and lead you back to good health. Before you put yourself through the process of detoxifying your body’s digestive system, it is important to ask, is colon cleansing really safe and effective?

Taking the time to do a little research will lead you to numerous colon cleansing solutions available. Some approaches involve using supplements or pills, while others approach this treatment with the use of the latest in technology. You may even find home remedies that claim to help you cleanse your body of toxins.

A poorly functioning bowel can, over time, lead to the development of serious diseases as well as terminal medical conditions. Always make sure that you get a professional with the proper expertise to treat this problem for you or you might run the risk of aggravating the situation.

While detoxifying your digestive system is a viable option to better health, overdoing your treatment sessions can be detrimental to your recovery. In fact, bowel movements might be hampered as a result. Inserting an enema incorrectly can also damage your colon and exposure to harmful microorganisms can further weaken your system.

When deciding if is colon cleansing really safe and efficient, and for you? It is important to weight the pros and the cons of this method of attaining a healthy body system. Some people also use colon cleansing as a solution to losing weight. Cleaning your colon may lead to weight loss in some people because it helps to rid the body of excess weight. There are many different ways of doing this, with pills, supplements or through a professional therapist.

You may be wondering if your decision to give up meat is the right one. Although people considering this will ask what difference will one person make? Although a single person’s sacrifice may be small, you have to multiply that by many millions around the world. For instance the number one cause of death in the United States and other countries with meat centered diets is heart disease.

If it weren’t specifically for meat, eggs, and dairy products which are the three largest sources of cholesterol, heart attacks and other heart and circulatory problems would be far less prevalent. The organization Earth Save has calculated that a vegetarian has only a quarter of the chance of a heart attack as someone who has meat in their diet. The risk of a heart attack for vegans is even lower with only a one in ten chance of having a heart attack against those of a person who eats meat. The health of a persons heart is only one of many areas where being a vegetarian will benefit their overall health.

For instance, you won’t be exposed to nearly as many preservatives, which are common in meat and are linked to cancer. In addition to this, a vegetarian consumes fewer hormones which are found in the feeds that animals are given. The consumption of lactose will also be reduced which is claimed to cause some digestive problems. The fact is people who become vegetarians have healthier lives; they can also feel comfortable knowing that they are not responsible for the slaughter of any animals.

The organization Vegan Out-Reach claims that the number of animals killed to feed the average American citizen during their life is in excess of two thousand seven hundred. Just in a couple of decades, many hundreds of animals would not need to loose their lives if you were to make this commitment. To help even further and stop the number of battery hens and dairy cows from having to suffer degrading conditions you could stop drinking milk and eating eggs. The arguments are very convincing and difficult to dismiss; it is definitely better to become a vegetarian. It matters to the thousands of animals you could potentially save and it matters to you as an individual because you can greatly reduce your chances of getting cancer and heart disease.

It is quite normal to expect people to want to look attractive and this might explain why anti-ageing skin care products are so successful; this is due primarily to the fact we are all living longer and want to continue looking younger as we age. This group of beauty products generally works by enabling the synthesis of collagen, the main protein of connective tissue in animals and the most abundant in our body; with around a quarter of our skin protein being collagen, the importance of this substance has not gone unnoticed. This area of anti-ageing treatments is connected to another group of products that help people to look young; called antioxidants, they help flush out toxins from the body and help reduce the signs of aging.

Probably the best known of these anti-oxidants is vitamin C although no-one really knows just how much we should have each day. Unfortunately all skin care treatments that use vitamin C have the problem of atmospheric oxidization to contend with once the product is exposed to the air.

To overcome this problem, manufacturers use alternative skin care treatments that still provide the same benefits but not the high manufacturing costs. However, these anti-ageing skin care treatments are not as effective vitamin C based products, although vitamin E and lipoic acid are also anti-oxidants and have similar effects.

Vitamin E is found in the blood and is an antioxidant that is also used to increase the body’s defenses against other health problems; it has been linked to resistance to a number of conditions including certain types of cancer. Another of these is lipoic acid which is found in every cell of our body to help generate energy for us to live; it can also help reduce the aging process which affects the skin.

Another group of products used to reduce the visible signs of ageing are phytochemicals which are compounds extracted from various plants and used in many anti-aging skin care products. Another benefit of phytochemicals, like those of alpha-lipoic acid, is their ability to reduce the prevalence of certain cancers; such as:

*Cancer that attacks the Prostate
*Cancer of the Breast
*Cancer that attacks the Colon

All of which are on the increase globally.

Other vitamins from the B group are also used in anti-ageing skin care like vitamins B5, B6 and B12 for example. This is a vast area that has the potential for many new anti-ageing skin care products and services in the future but research needs to continue. A great deal about the aging process has already been learned and the products available today are already far more advanced than ten years ago; there is still a long way to go however, before methods that successfully reduce the effects of age are commonplace.

There may be many challenges still to overcome but in time scientists believe they will succeed in producing more effective anti-ageing skin care products that are less expensive and available to more people. A person should never accept that everything science devises in relation to skin care and anti-aging is always going to be the best; we must not forget however, that there are many more natural methods we can all use to reduce the signs of aging on a regular basis. Drinking plenty of water, getting a good night’s sleep, exercising regularly, maintaining healthy eating habits and keeping stress at bay are an essential means of delaying the ageing process.

More than ever, people are looking for ways to improve their health and as health-consciousness grows, so does the search for proven methods of alternative healing. Saunas fall into this category. They have been utilized for a long time by many cultures and anyone who has experienced a sauna knows the value of dry heat for relaxation and health.

Gyms are the most common location where people have used a sauna, but today folks are discovering the value of having a home sauna. Having a home sauna dispenses with the need for road travel to and from the gym (which helps on gas) as well as cutting out the ongoing fees of a sauna service at the local gym or spa.

You can choose from a variety of home saunas, depending on what you want:

* Finnish Sauna * Infrared Sauna * Indoor or Outdoor Sauna * Electric or Wood Sauna * Two Person, Four Person, or an even larger Sauna

If you are handy with tools, it is even possible to build your own home sauna. Home saunas are often surprisingly easy to construct and in fact, many can be purchased in pre-arranged packages which require little more than bolting and a small amount of electrical work on your part.

When it comes to your health, a home sauna, particularly the infrared sauna, is worth its weight in gold for the following reasons:

* It is a great stress reliever * It can help reduce body pain * It is known to lower blood pressure * It facilitates the detoxification process

You may not be familiar with an infrared sauna, but it is excellent for your health. As you sit in the sauna the heat goes deeply into your muscles, joints and tissues. It increases blood flow and oxygen flow, it promotes detoxification, which is important because of the increase in toxins in our environment and our bodies.

Infrared saunas are user-friendly by nature and because of this people enjoy having them. It is easier to breath in a infrared sauna since it produces much cooler air. You can have a full-body sweat out or you can leave the door open for a minimal-sweating but effective sauna experience. Having this option allows people to use their saunas more consistently.

Other Home Sauna Info

* Skin brushing combined with infrared sauna use can enhance cleansing as pores open to ease the release of toxic debris. Skin tone and elasticity improve as well as acne, eczema, psoriasis, and skin roughness.

* The heaters are the center point of your sauna. If they goes bad they can be expensive to replace so the best thing to do is get a warranty that will cover the heaters for as long as you own the sauna.

* The infrared saunas operate at lower temperatures and use less energy. This translates into lower energy bills, which is great on the budget.

Walking is known to provide clear health benefits for your body. It’s good for your heart, helps you burn calories, and it is good for your circulation.

But here is something else for you to think about: why not use your walking as a time for meditation? Most people start walking because it’s an excellent form of exercise, injuries are rarely experienced and there is no learning involved. Easy, easy, easy.

There’s no special equipment required. You just start walking and you are immediately on the path to excellent health. If you combine this with meditation, or mindful walking, you will find the benefits immeasurable.

What is walking meditation? Walking meditation is when you consciously focus on your every step. No need to increase your speed, in fact, you will more than likely begin by walking at a slower pace so you can get the hang of the practice of meditating while walking.

As you concentrate on your walking, make mental notes of the flow of your footsteps. Mindful walking is a practice that originated in Buddhism, in particular the art of Ayatana. In Christianity, walking the labyrinth is considered a form of walking meditation.

Utilizing mindful walking helps you focus on the present. As you become more skilled at concentrating your focus on your footsteps and not on the troubles of your day, you will find your stress melting away.

Many forms of meditation have the individual sitting with eyes shut, focusing their attention away from the outside. With mindful walking, the eyes are open wide, taking in the outside environment. This gives the walker an opportunity to detatch from the head noisy; a very valuable experience, especially for westerners.

Basic guidelines for walking meditation:

* Conduct your walking meditation in an area that you are familiar with.

* Shoot for a 20 minute time period. If that is too long for you, start with a 5 minute period and gradually increase your time to 20 minutes.

* Start your walking in a relaxed but not a slouched posture.

* Focus on the sensations in your feet.

* Let your arms hang down in a relaxed manner.

* Keep your focus gentle and about 3-6 feet in front of you.

In conclusion, mindful walking is a practice that is easy to implement into your daily exercise regiment. Not only will you be helping your body out, but you will be taking your exercise program up a notch by improving your mind and spirit.

Just start walking.

Is life getting to you? Do you feel stressed out all the time? Massage therapy may just be the ticket for rejuvenating your spirits and giving you a fresh boost of energy to face what life throws at you. Here are some of the benefits of massage therapy:

* Reduces your anxiety and stress

It is common knowledge that in today’s society, stress is considered to be a culprit behind many health concerns. It is easy to treat as well. You will feel a whole lot better and can add years to your life just by giving yourself a break from your stress. For those of you who have had a massage, you know how wonderful it is. (For those of you who haven’t yet had a massage, get ready for a fantastic treat.) When you experience the work of a master massage therapist, your stress and worries will melt away under their touch.

* Reduce your pain

Most are keenly aware of tight and sore muscles that go along with a hard days work. A relaxing massage will dramatically ease your pain. As well, the increased blood flow to your sore areas will help with the pain. If you have problems with tension headaches, massage is also known to help relieve this type of pain as well.

* Improve the functioning of the immune system

Recent studies indicate that after recieving a massage there is an increase in the body’s white cell count. The white blood cells assists the body in fighting diseases. By receiving a massage on a frequent basis, you can strengthen your immune system which, in turn, can aid your body in warding off sickness.

* Improves your circulation

As your muscles relax, your blood flow increases. Improved circulation gives you a nice boost of energy that can last throughout the day. Plus, by getting regular massages, their is the potential to minimize cellulite because of the increased bloodflow in the skin.

* Decreases your blood pressure

Do you have high blood pressure? Research was conducted that showed when a person is simply touched, their blood pressure dramatically decreases immediately. In combination this with the other benefits of massage therapy like relaxed muscles, pain reduction, relief from anxiety and improved circulation, you have a valuable way to maintain an acceptable blood pressure level. (Something to take into consideration, if you have low blood pressure, you should be careful at the completion of your massage as you might be lightheaded.)

* Improvement of your mood

Massage therapy has proven to be an excellent way to lift one’s mood and promote a sense of well-being. For example, massage has been used as treatment of depression for women who have experienced the loss of a child. If massage helped these women with their depression, you can be hopeful that it can improve your mood as well.

The benefits of massage therapy are priceless, but you may be wondering if fits into your budget. Here is a suggestion for you: contact a massage school in your area and inquire about their student clinics. Massage schools provide student clinics and you can get an excellent massage for an affordable rate. Go ahead and give yourself a much needed treat. Call and set yourself up with a massage therapist today. You won’t regret it.
